Where CAN I Get My Test Done?

Blood Test or ECG

If your doctor gives you a requisition form (sample) in order to do blood and/or urine and/or ECG tests, you can go to any bloodwork lab within Ontario that is convenient for you.  Our recommendation is to go to Dynacare or Lifelabs , if possible. They will send us your results electronically so we will get your results sooner. Unfortunately, other labs continue to either mail or fax results to us, which can introduce delays and also increase the likelihood of lost results.

  • Please remember to bring your OHIP card each time you go to the lab.

  • You usually do not need an appointment to get these tests done though appointments may be possible via the lab websites.

  • We do recommend checking the lab websites to confirm your preferred location’s hours, especially during around statutory holiday periods.

  • You usually will not need to fast prior to your testing (exceptions listed here).

  • If you do not have a printer, you can submit your requisitions online at either:
    (1) Dynacare (instructions) or you can email (2) Lifelabs (email the requisition to PatientREQSON@lifelabs.com using your first and last (legal) name as the subject line). In both cases, please allow 24 hours for the locations to process your submission.

For your convenience, we've created maps of nearby labs. We try to keep these maps updated, but just in case, we recommend you give them a call first since lab locations do close down from time to time.

Imaging Test

If your doctor gives you a requisition form to do an imaging test, (i.e. x-ray, mammogram, ultrasound, bone density, etc.) the test can be done at any outpatient imaging centre within Ontario. This does not apply to tests that your doctor arranges at a specific site or hospital (e.g. MRI at Sunnybrook, CT scan at Mount Sinai, etc.).

Once you find a imaging centre you like, we recommend you keep going back to the same site for future imaging tests. There are certain circumstances where it is helpful to be able to compare a current result to a previous result, and this is only possible if you go to the same site on an ongoing basis.

  • Please remember to bring your OHIP card each time you go to the lab.

  • You may not need an appointment to get these tests done - however, we recommend calling the imaging facility you’ve selected ahead to ensure walk-in hours remain the same / they are able to see you.

  • Please remember to bring your requisition with you. If you need your requisition faxed to a specific location, please let us know at least 3-5 days in advance (it is unlikely we will be able to action urgent requests for immediate faxes same-day). If you have lost your requisition, click here.

For your convenience, we've created maps of nearby imaging sites. We try to keep these maps updated, but just in case, we recommend you give them a call first since lab locations do close down from time to time.

can I get a copy of my (x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, etc.) images from you?

In general, the interpretation of medical imaging such as as x-rays, MRIs, CTs, and ultrasounds are completed by highly specialized physicians known as radiologists. The radiologists interpret the medical images, and then supply a report to the family physician that summarizes their conclusion.

These reports are what family physicians will rely on, instead of interpreting the medical images themselves.

In short: we do not receive any actual images of any MRI's, ultrasounds, x-rays, etc. We are only provided written reports.

If you are specifically looking for the images from your test, you will need to reach out to the testing facility you visited to ask for a copy.
